This is the end… of the first chapter
Dear Readers,
After 5+ years I have decided to wind down Farrer’s operations. Client capital was returned earlier this year, and all advisory work has been completed.
With any startup the founder has to take a call after a reasonable amount of time on whether the venture is going to reach a scale commensurate with the effort and opportunity cost involved of running the business. After a self-imposed five-year period, Farrer’s scale had not reached my internal targets, and thus I decided to ‘rip the band aid’ as it were.
I’m still figuring out next professional steps, but as far as this blog goes, it will go through a rebrand (launching in August). Its next iteration will focus on Southeast Asia. The region is going through fascinating shifts from macro uncertainty in Indonesia, an economy in Vietnam that is vibrant and not just promising, stiff competition from Chinese ecommerce/delivery players in Singapore, and the threat of AI displacing jobs in the Philippines. Thus, there are many topics I will explore in the blog ranging from markets, economy, governance, and history. I can’t wait to get writing and hope you join me for the ride. The first few topics I will cover are:
The Curious Case of One Championship
The Trial of Nadiem Makarim
The Lost Vintages — How venture returns in the region have struggled
Lastly, I wanted to thank you all for the support you have given me by following and reading this blog. I’m still amazed thousands of people wanted to read what I had to write, and that the audience spanned the globe. It was a true labor of love, and I really appreciate the time you took to hear my thoughts.
As always, thanks for reading and happy investing!
Best, Pratyush
